The map of Pinsk District

The Pinsk district is situated in the south of the Republic of Belarus. It borders: in the east – upon Luninets district, in the south-east – upon Stolin district, in the south – upon Zarechniansk (Ukraine), in the west – upon Ivanovo, in the north – upon Ivatsevichi and Gantsevichi districts of Brest region. Extension of the district from the south to the north makes 64 km, from the west to the east– 50 km. The area of Pinsk district makes 3200 m?., population makes (as to the date December, 1, 2004) – 58200 people. The district is divided in 1 settlement council (the urban village Logishin) and 24 rural Councils.

In the district live Belarusian, Russian, Ukrainian, Poles and other nationalities. On the territory of the district flow more than 20 rivers: Pripiat and its inflows: Bobrik and Vislitsa; Yaselda and Merechanka, Pina, Styr and others, there are the Oginskiy and Dnepro-Bugskiy channels, 11 lakes and reservoirs here: Gorodishchenskoe, Konchitskoe, Semikhovichskoe lake, Pogostskoe and others.

The soil of agricultural grounds is mainly sod-podzol and peat-marsh. From mineral soils loamy sandy and sandy soils predominate. On the territory of the district deposits of minerals were discovered: peat, brick- tiled loam, mortar sand, chalk. 32% of the district territory is covered with forests. Coniferous forests predominate; there are a birch, alder-tree, aspen, oak, hornbeam, and ash-tree.

Through the territory of the district the railway Brest-Pinsk-Kalinkovichi, the highways Brest-Gomel, Brest-Pinsk-Luninets, Ivatsevichi-Logishin-Pinsk-Stolin, Gantsevichi-Pinsk pass. A distance up to Minsk makes 300 km, up to Brest – 175 km.
